Description
Also known as the 'Keravel Pink’, this beautiful rosy onion with pinkish flesh is associated with the French onion sellers known affectionately as ‘Onion Johnnies’. In the 1920's and 30's, these Breton farmers travelled on bicycles selling their distinctive pink onions door to door across Great Britain.
Apart from their onions and bicycles, the Onion Johnnies were known for their traditional Breton dress of striped top and beret which soon became the Englishman's image of a French man. ‘Rode de Roscoff’ onions are now almost impossible to find but highly prized by cooks for their uniquely sweet and mild flavour. Grows to a good size and will keep very well in storage.
