Description
The Joraform JK5100 is a commercial scale composting system for processing biodegradeable food waste. This product is a refurbished version of the older model; it has been fully rebuilt to new standard by Joraform in their factory in Sweden.
The JK5100 refurb model features the same quality mechanical parts as the newer model, and is supported by a full spare parts list should they be required.
The unit is fully automatic and includes a waste grinder, wood pellet feeder and fan aeration system to ensure waste is processed quickly and efficiently. The end product is a dry, high nutrient compost which can be used in landscaping or for growing food crops making the JK5100 a true closed loop food recycling system.
The JK5100 can process all biodegradeable waste including raw vegetable scraps or cooked food such as meat and fish. The processing capacity is approximately 700 litres of food waste per week, with a turnaround of 4 weeks from food waste to garden compost.
The JK5100's capacity is sufficent for an apartment complex of 100 dwellings with 2-3 persons per household; it is also suitable for commercial use in restaurants, schools, colleges, hospitals or other kitchens with a high food waste output.
This is a tried and tested Swedish manufactured system that has been in use in Swedish commercial kitchens for 30 years.
Composting method
The design features a dual chamber system where waste is added as required to the first chamber via a grinder to ensure scaps are of an even consistency. Sawdust pellets (similar to those used in a wood pellet boiler) are automatically mixed at the correct ratio to balance the high nitrogen food scraps with a high carbon material at the correct 25:1 C:N ratio for rapid composting.
The full process from food waste to garden compost takes 4 weeks. The initial composting takes place in the first chamber where the material is aerated and mixed. This part of the process generates a lot of heat and kills off any pathogens which may be present. Fresh food waste is continuously added throughout this cycle via the grinder system.
After 2 weeks, the material is automatically emptied into the second chamber, where a further 2 week mixing and ripening process begins. During this stage, no new material is being added to chamber 2, ensuring that the finished product is fully composted.
As soon as the first chamber is emptied into the second, a new batch of compost can be started - which means at any given time the machine is processing both a composting and ripening batch of material.
Servicing and spare parts
All parts are replaceable, both for brand new machines and for Joraform used refurbished models. The body of the machine is made from high grade stainless steel and is corrosion resistant. The expected working lifespan of the JK5100 and JK6200 is 20 years+.
