Vermiculite is a naturally occuring and non toxic soft mica mineral for seed germination, pricking out and for use as a houseplant compost. It absorbs nutrients and prevents them from getting washed out of the soil and slowly releases them back to the plant roots. Vermiculite also retains water and keeps it near to the roots and helps maintain an even temperature when used as a seed covering.
Vermiculite encourages faster germination in seeds and promotes better aeration and water retention, this all leads to healthier seedling establishment. Seeds of all sizes can be raised in just vermiculite. It can also be used as a great soil improver.
