Charles Dowding is the organic gardener in the U.K., he runs courses at his base in Somerset and has written a number of important books on vegetable growing. He was one of the first to champion the natural 'No Dig' approach to gardening with all his teaching centered around looking after the gardeners most valuable resource - the soil. As he says at the end of his book 'Organic Gardening the Natural No-Dig Way' , "The answer is in the soil.
The Vegetable Course is, I suppose, the book form of one of his hands on courses. I love it because whether you are an experienced or novice grower if you stick to this book you'll gave a great garden - that's it. You will have a more productive garden with less effort and ,importantly, without using chemical pest control or plant feeds.
The book has some great practical sections I haven't seen in other books such as photos of common weeds with advice on how to get rid of them. If you only buy one book to get you growing then this is the one. It makes an ideal gardening gift.
