The Hungry Bin is 950mm high with a footprint of 600m x 600m and over all length and breadth of 650mm (it is conical with the top wider than the bottom).
Designed and made in New Zealand, hungry bin is a fast and convenient way to compost your food scraps. In our opinion it is simply the best home composting solution available. In a single day the friendly compost worms will eat their own weight in scraps and process approx 2 kilos of kitchen and garden waste.
If you are into gardening the most exciting part is what you get out the other end. Worm compost or vermicompost is the simply the best compost available. It has been thoroughly broken down by the worms into a highly nutritious, balanced plant feed that can be used anywhere in the garden.
The Hungry bin is a unique design. Traditional wormeries use trays of bedding material which need to be regularly changed and result in a cumbersome and messy process. The Hungry Bin is different. It uses a unique conical design which compresses the compost and encourages the worms to feed at the surface. This means the compost 'brick' harvested from the bottom of the hungry bin is largely free of worms. If there are one or two stragglers they can be placed back in the top of the bin to join their friends.
The conical design also works as a funnel strain moisture from the bin which not only keeps the worms healthy (excessive moisture is a problem with other designs) but produces a highly nutritious liquid plant feed or 'compost tea'. This liquid feed is caught in the drip tray placed below the hungry bin where it can be poured off into a watering can and used around the garden.
