Rotating Composter Bin 200L

Qty:
£129

In a nutshell....

Large rotating composter or compost tumbler. The bin lies on castor wheels and can be turned by hand, mixing the compost within.

Pest Free Composting At Home

The rotating composter is made from a thick rotational moulded plastic. The unit comes already assembled with a very clever base plate including a revolutionary caster design. A rotating composter breaks down waste quicker than a tower composter as the constant mixing of materials speeds up the mouldering process.

Easy to use - Mixes Compost - Rodent Resistant - Very sturdy Construction

How does the roto composter work? It's so simple, the tumbler sits on the base where the integral caster wheels sit neatly into the grooved track on the drum. The tumbler spins easily on the base allowing you to mix your compost perfectly while the side vent holes let air enter the chamber.

The lid fixes tightly to the drum with a tight twist action which seals the composter making it almost impossible for rodents to gain access.

I bought this at the start of the summer as I have only a small back yard. I've always used 'daleks' before with great success. Positives: It's small and not too ugly, yet it seems to hold a lot. It's good value too. Negatives: As soon as its half full, it's too heavy to tumble. I've had problems getting the brown-green mix right - the usual mix for a dalek doesn't work and gets too wet, so you need lots of brown, and sawdust if possible. Also the bin itself is really sturdy but the base is much more flimsy, and moves if you're tumbling a heavy load. I think it would be much better if it was suspended from a bar or something on the sides, to allow it to spin, even if that made it a bit bigger.

Nice and compact fits well into a small space. I struggled with the lid at first, but it got easier. It's about half full and getting heavy to rotate. I don't think I'll be able to fill it up before I leave it to compost or I won't be able to turn it. But I am very happy with my new bin, my garden is extremely tiny and I'm just happy that I can produce my own compost. I found a small dop of oil on the castors makes it easier to turn

We're very happy with the composter. The delivery was quick. We were surprised at the size as it's much bigger than expected. So far, so good. Now we have to be patient and wait for the compost.

VERY EASY TO USE AND SET UP. I LIKE THE FACT THAT IT IS EASY TO FILL AND EMPTY. ROTATING IT WHEN FILLING UP CAN BE DIFFICULT BUT UNAVOIDABLE! I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO THE COMPOST.

The Composter Bin arrived on time and in good condition. The tape holding the box together had com undone exposing the contents. The composter bin is good and strong and I had no problem setting it up. It was easy to fill. Being a elderly woman I found that half filling the bin was enough for me to rotate without help. May be a smaller size for people like me may be an option.

I bought one of these units about 6 months ago and have managed to produce 2 lots of really good compost since. This is a vast improvement on my past composting experiences. Well done to this product designer. If it was a little large that would help

This is a good quality product but unfortunately is not good enough to compost for 3 people. I don't think it is a good buy as the holes very quickly filled up with grunge and it still has the original fruit and veg grunge after 6 months.it did not do what it promised.dont waste your money it needs to be made bigger say 300 litres with a hanle would be very useful.Might work for one person

It is a wonderful product; very easy to use and its design prevents the problem with compost clogging the system when turning. That being said, it is a bit difficult to turn when it is full but doable.

How do you suggest to best empty this? I don't find it very easy to lift spadefuls out as it's heavy, is there any other way?
Answered by Niall
on December 28th, 2019
Hi Julie If you tilt it right to the front so the access hatch is almost gone around again and then jam a stone in behind it you don't have to hold it with one hand while emptying it. This makes it so much easier to get the compost out. Niall Quickcrop

Hi, it was mentioned that the composter is rodent proof. But goes onto state that cooked food should not be used as it attracts rodents? Therefore, can cooked food waste be used, although there is a risk of attracting rodents? Other composters allow cooked food waste but I presume that the risk of attracting rodents still exists.
Answered by Niall
on October 30th, 2019
Hi Colin Due to the smell from the unit with cooked food in it it will attract rodents if cooked food is added. However the unit is fully sealed so they can't get in. I suppose what we are saying is cooked food added will attract vermin however they can't access the unit Niall Quickcrop

Hi, I have vegetables kitchen waste in buckets for month's, can I still use these in my compost or should I put them in my brown bin?
Answered by Niall
on March 11th, 2019
Hi Marie You can of course add this to your compost bin. Just make sure to add some brown waste at the same time (shredded paper, Cardboard, leaves etc) as you will need some soakage so that the mix doesn't get to wet Regards Niall Quickcrop

My present compost bin omits a brown fluid, will this bin leak a similar fluid, if so it may need to stand in the garden as the fluid leaves a strong stain.
Answered by Niall
on April 30th, 2018
Hi Geraldine As these units are sealed around the sides they don't leak. There are air holes in the side but they are quite far from the sides so it would take a lot of fluid in it to leak out Regards Niall Quickcrop

Is there a handle to turn the bin?
Answered by Andrew

Hi Marian. No, the rotating bin does not have a handle. It is not a very big unit and provided it is not overfilled is relatively easy to turn.

Answered by Niall
on March 26th, 2018
Hi Mary Yes it is fully sealed and there is no way a rat or a mouse could get in to it unless you left the access lid off. Regards Niall Quickcrop

Thinking of getting one of these composters. Can you tell me if I can put my cat litter (wood based products) in the bin? And if I can, is this classed as green or brown waste? Thanks
Answered by Andrew
on November 20th, 2017
Hi Lucy. Yes you can however i would make sure that it makes up less than 10% of the content of the composter as you will need a lot of heat in the unit to break down the wood based cat litter. This is brown waste.

The specifications for the rotating composter give the length as 580 mm and the width as 780 mm. The photos may be deceiving but it does not appear to be wider than its length. I have a small space to fit the composter so could you clarify this for me. thanks, Maire

Hi Marie. It should of course be the other way around. It is indeed 780mm long x 580mm deep and 600 high.

why can cooked vegetable and fruit not be put in a compost bin? Maire
Answered by Andrew
on August 28th, 2017
Hi Maire. Cooked foods attract Vermin such as rats and mice where as non cooked foods doesn't. It may be to do with the smell from the cooked food. That is why a sealed composter allows you more flexibility
Asked By Jude
on May 24th, 2017
What exactly would I put in and in what ratios etc? Many thanks
Answered by Andrew
on May 25th, 2017
Hi Jude. You can put in all of your non cooked kitchen waste and all of your garden waste along with brown waste from your house. Paper and cardboard ripped up. You need roughly one third brown waste, one third garden waste and one third kitchen waste so that it is not to wet yet not to dry in order for the compost to build up the required heat to break down

On average how long before you get a batch of compost? Divided between buying two of these or one Jora Big Pig. Thanks, Anne
Answered by Andrew
on May 11th, 2017
Hi Anne. In the summer the Rotating composter once filled will produce compost in 8 to 10 weeks in the winter it can be up to 4 months. The Joraform will build up heat and start composting once you start adding to it so it only takes 6 weeks in summer and 10 in winter

I had one of these from you this year and in the video it mentions holes, mine does not seem to have any so my compost is always wet,can you tell me where the holes are situated so I can check they are not blocked, and if it has none where should I drill some Thanks Denis
Answered by Andrew

Hi Denis. The holes are pre-drilled in the side of the compost barrel. They are small so they may have clogged up but you can redrill them to make the holes larger

Is this suitable for animal waste? I have two dogs and wonder if this would be suitable.
Answered by Andrew
on June 17th, 2016
Hi Sonya. This composter will not be suitable for animal waste. You would need a fully insulated composter to generate enough heat to kill pathogens and break down the dog waste and make it safe to use. We are agents for the Joraform range but this is a much more expensive unit: https://www.quickcrop.co.uk/search/joraform
Asked By Tim Lehane

Do you at some stage need to stop adding material to the composter in order to harvest. If you keep adding material how do you harvest the compost? Since you have to use a shovel you will not be able to separate compost from material that still needs to break down.
Answered by Andrew
on February 02nd, 2016
Hi Tim. Yes, you will have to stop adding material at some stage to allow the material to fully compost. The only composters on the market that you can use the same unit year round are the Joraform units which are much more expensive than the simple barrel devices. The joraform features 2 separate insulated compartments so you can fill one while composting the other. They also produce finished compost very quickly so you are unlikely to ever have to let it catch up. I include a link for your convenience: https://www.quickcrop.ie/search/jora

Do you need to add worms to this? Can you add cooked food scraps? Also, it's rodent proof but could it attract rodents to the area?
Answered by Andrew
on May 15th, 2015
You don't add worms to the rotating composter, it is not a wormery. Cooked food scraps are more likely to attract rodents so I do not recommend adding them. The composter shouldn't attract rodents to the area if used with uncooked vegetable food scraps and garden waste.
