Calcified seaweed comes from a naturally occurring red coral-like seaweed, and is a great option as an organic soil improver. It can break down heavy soils or neutralise acid soils, and can also be used as a lawn conditioner.
When applied to soil, it is quickly colonised by beneficial soil bacteria: this causes the seaweed structure to break down and gradually release calcium, magnesium carbonate and a wide range of trace elements.
Along with the increase in microbial activity, this leads to improved soil structure, stronger roots and healthy, vigorous plant growth. Vitax Calcified Seaweed isn't a short term plant feed, either: just one application every three years should be enough to maintain the soil conditioning benefits.
To use, apply to soils at the rate of 70g per square metre and lightly work it in by hoeing, raking or forking.
2.5kg will treat 36 square metres.
Not to be used with ericaceous/acid-loving plants.
