Pest Control For Leeks & Onions
The Leek moth trap uses the scent of the female moth to lure and trap the male moth. The adhesive on the base is very sticky and will hold many of these pests. The leek moths fly from the beginning of April until the end of May and a second generation will fly from July until the end of August.
The female leek moth lays her eggs close to the base of plants and when the maggots hatch (approx 14 days later), they will burrow into the plant and feed on the leaves towards the centre. They mainly attack leeks and onions but will attack most alliums.
How To Use
The trap should be set up in early April for the first generation or early July for the second generation. Remove the pheromone lure from it's packet and place on the sticky base. Then suspend from a stake level with the top of the crop.
The insert is very sticky and the adhesive used can be removed from hands with hand cleaner or cream. Use white spirits on other surfaces.
Important
It is important to check the trap every 2 – 3 days. If any moths are caught, the best approach is to cover the crop with Enviromesh. Alternatively, a suitable spray should be applied 14 days later. A second spray should be applied after a second period of 14-21 days has elapsed.
