The Joraform Compost Tumbler For Faster Home Composting
New updated Version with Improved Insulation now in stock
The Jora rotary composter is also known by its technical name JK270, or more affectionately as the 'Big Pig'. We can't believe how quick and efficient this composter is. It composts so fast you struggle to keep it full.
The JK270 takes up very little room and fits easily in a small garden.
No strong smells and no rodent problems: you can even add cooked meat and fish waste!
This unique digester is a home composting system that will recycle household food waste and garden waste of up to 15kg per week. The "Big Pig" is like a large mechanical stomach that literally digests the organic matter you feed it. A fully insulated composter that bolts on to the side of your house, it’s clean, self-contained, and it turns food waste into rich compost faster than the average household can fill it.
The Big Pig is so well insulated that the internal temperature reaches around 75 degrees centigrade. At that kind of temperature, the micro-organisms work so fast that you can almost see the food breaking down before your eyes!
Composting
Composting occurs at temperature intervals of +2 to +78C. Different micro-organisms work at different temperature intervals. Higher temperatures give a higher degree of hygienic composting, and are therefore more favourable. With continued addition of waste, the temperature will rise to 65-75C. You don't have to buy a thermometer, as you will see the steam rising from the contents. In fact, it can get too hot to bury your hand in it - should you wish to do so!
* With equal moisture distribution and oxygen configuration in the Little Pig unit.
Two Compartments for Maximum Results

5 Tumbler
Good instructions once you get your head around translation (eg Isolation means insulation) Fully built it is sturdy and good looking and will surely be rat proof. We are looking g forward to improved ease of turning compost when compared with traditional insulated compost bins. Will we need to grease the spindle?

4 15 year review
I'm beginning to think I will need a new composter shortly which is why I'm here on the site so I thought I'd post my experiences after 15 years of continuous use. The original stand rusted out after about 8 years so I replaced it and now the side panels are beginning to rust through, also the body panels especially on the corners so i've been using filler to keep it going. The hinges also failed and I had some new ones welded on as unable to get spares for older model. I have been very pleased with the operation although I altered the process slightly. I fill each side quite quickly and I empty the older side into a black dustbin with holes drilled in the bottom as not ready to go on the garden and then it is invaded by hundreds of worms which turn it into fine compost with only chickenbones and bits if eggshell recognisable. I get 2 bin fulls a year. Never had a vermin problem and it has never smelt but I do cover it in the winter as rain tends to get in around the panels. All in all I'm very happy with it and it's great to be able to compost all kitchen waste.

5 As it says on the Tin
As previous poster said. This is not cheap which sometimes can lead to a lot of regret. But i am glad to say that not in this case. Couldn't be happier with the results. Have my unit about a year and the amount it gets through and the compost it produces always amazes me. And with no smell or rodents which was always my bug bare

5 It's a yes from me!
Did a lot of research before purchase as it's a big investment for me. Wanted to wait for the first finished load of compost before I gave my verdict. It does take a little time to assemble & I needed help to hold panels. A bit of a learning curve with the ratios as I have plenty of garden waste. After a bit of tweaking and adding more pellets I'm delighted with the end result and the speed. Best of all, no smells and no concerns about rodents hanging around.

Can get over how much and how quickly this breaks down the compost material and kitchen waste i put in. No smell and makes great compost to go on my beds. Assembly was tricky but Andrews video made all the difference. Throw away the instructions. Useless. All in all really happy i went with this and no more vermin in my garden which is a delight

5 Joraform Compost Tumbler JK270 'Big Pig'
Got this in December 2019. Really happy with it. It took a few hours to assemble. I did that mainly on my own with a bit of help from my wife. The instructional video is really useful. It is a great system. As previous posters have said, you do need the wood pellets as a carbon source. Cardboard is not enough. For anybody running into difficulties with smell or liquid leaking out of the composter, just add my wood pellets and it will resolve almost all difficulties. It took me 3 or 4 months to fill the first side, because it is breaking down as you add it, so even if it is nearly full today, when you add more in a few days, there is more space again, because the previous contents have broken down. Finally in April, i moved onto the second compartment. The first compartment has broken down now and is only half-full. So the size really reduces a lot during composting. I have been adding used kitchen roll, but it tends to gather into balls and be slower to break down. Neverth

5 Joraform Compost Tumbler JK270 'Big Pig'
I have owned this for over two years. It composts kitchen waste, garden waste and waste from 3 chickens. The wooden shavings that are removed with the chicken waste are sufficient to maintain healthy composting. It is durable and produces great odour free compost. Composting reduces outside through the winter but so does the quantity of garden waste so I have never exceeded capacity. I would highly recommend for fast, odour and rodent free composting.

If you email our customer support on support@quickcrop.com the guys will send you on a user manual which will help you with the process. It does cool down after the initial build up of heat but as it breaks down you can add more to that side which will get the heat moving again and also means you get more in each side of the unit

I think you might be reading old reviews as the Joraform manufacturer has changed how the steel in their units are now treated and the paint they use which seems to have eradicated rust issues. They started doing this about 4 years ago so any reviews older than this may have had this problem. The company was taken over 5 years ago and a lot of improvements to the product have taken place since then

Its actually a really good question. You can make compost from kitchen waste once you add in about a third brown waste (shredded cardboard, paper etc). Once you don't let the mix get to wet you will produce very good compost this way
