How To Grow Salad Burnet

Salad Burnet, also called Garden Burnet, Small Burnet or simply just burnet, is a perennial herb of the Rosaceae or Rose family. It's edible leaves have a slight cucumber like flavour and can be used in any kind of salad or as a nice addition to cold drinks.

Site and Soil

Grows in most soil types but prefers moist conditions. Sunny or partially shaded location.

Where To Grow

Salad Burnet will grow in poorer soil types as long as they are well drained. but generally favours moist conditions. Very easy growing plant

Propagating

Space your seeds about 30cm apart and cover with a thin layer of soil (a little less than 0.5cm should do).  Keep the soil moist until germination occurs.

Plant Care

Removing the plants flowers will encourage more leaf growth and minimize seeding. Water regularly to keep the plants cool. Does not tolerate transplanting well. Salad Burnet has no real pest problems to speak of.

Container Growing

A good plant for container gardening, it makes a very attractive addition to a window box. Make sure not to over water and keep cutting for fresh growth.
