Description
Designed and made in New Zealand, the Hungry Bin is a fast and convenient way to compost your food scraps with the help of composting worms (red wrigglers).
The resulting material - known as 'vermicompost' - has been thoroughly broken down by the worms into a highly nutritious, balanced soil conditioner and plant feed that can be used anywhere in the garden.
In a single day the compost worms will eat their own weight in scraps and process approx. 2 kilos of kitchen and garden waste.
The high capacity Hungry Bin can handle up to 4lbs of food scraps per day.
Design
Traditional wormeries use trays of bedding material, which need to be regularly changed and result in a cumbersome and messy process. The Hungry Bin is different. It uses a unique conical design which compresses the compost and encourages the worms to feed at the surface.
This means that the compost 'brick' harvested from the bottom of the Hungry Bin is largely free of worms. If there are one or two stragglers they can be placed back in the top of the bin to join their friends.
The conical design also works as a funnel to strain moisture from the bin, which keeps the worms healthy (excessive moisture can be a problem with other worm bin designs). This leachate is caught in the drip tray placed below the Hungry Bin; if diluted it can be used on ornamental plants.
The large feeding area at the top of the bin makes it easy for you to add food scraps, and the easy-to-use harvesting system at the bottom allows you to collect the castings with minimal effort or disruption.
The Hungry Bin is made from UV-stabilized, weather-resistant materials for long outdoor life, rain or shine.

The Hungry Bin is 950 mm high with a footprint of 600 mm x 600 mm and an overall length and breadth of 650 mm (it is conical shaped, with the top wider than the bottom).
Capacity: approx. 80 litres
