Digging out weeds is very labour intensive and can cause aches and strains quite easily. A safe, organic alternative to manual weeding is flame weeding. This uses a flame torch to burn the top foliage of the weed. It is a tried and tested alternative to chemical intervention and a genuine labour saving gardening tool making it a welcome addition to any garden shed.
The Sheen Flamegun range has been manufactured in Britain since 1952 to an excellent standard with very little modifications to its original design. It is fuelled by paraffin, also known as kerosene, and requires minimal maintenance. Complete with a one gallon fuel tank it has an integral pump and pressure gauge for greater efficiency.
It can be used on beds and borders and is perfect for removing fungal growth and moss from patio and paving.
Once the Flamegun is primed and started up simply pass the torch flame across the plant leaves until they are heated up, this dries out and destroys the plants cell structure which will prevent any further movement of sap. The plant will die back and after a secondary blast will disintegrate into a nutrient rich potash, replenishing and feeding the soil.
Usage Tip from Sheen: The fuel tank of the X300 is best filled to two thirds full, and this will then run for 45 minutes continuously on full power.
Please note: This is a utilitarian product, made in an old fashioned factory and the paint finish can be rustic. We do not warrant against blemishes or marks on the paintwork - the factory make a good product that works well, but occasionally marks are present in the paint - it's been like that for 50 years and we can't change this. The Sheen X300 however is very practical and superb and doing what it is meant for - killing weeds.

5 Fun AND Effective
I have a gravel driveway that needs weeding a few times a year, and I wanted to stop using weedkiller. First I bought a “weed wand”, but quickly realised it would take an entire weekend to get it done. So I bought an X300. What a difference! What’s more, you get to channel your twelve year old self! One word of caution: I thought I’d try to save money by syphoning some heating fuel from our tank. It’s kerosene. Turns out all kerosene is not the same and it quickly blocked the jets. Problem resolved when I splashed out a bit more for higher quality (ie. cleaner) fuel.

5 Sheen X300 Flamegun
Just ordered another X300 flame gun, as my old one needs replacing after 15 years or so. I initally bought this product as I did not want to use pesticides because children and cats roamed the garden. I now find it very satisfying having 'a good burn' with a steady flame. Some tips. It took me about five uses before I had a feel for the flame gun; the flow of paraffin needs to be regulated (which is easy, but needs a bit of practice). Only fill the tank, at most, two thirds full as the pressure you create by pumping lasts longer that way. Re-pump when the pressure gauge gets to about 15, as less than that and the jet can cut out. And when re-pumping, point the flame gun down hill if you can as this tends to avoid the flame cutting out. Go back over places you have burned as patches can be missed (and these are usually spotted just as you turn the gun off). Wear heavy footwear to stamp out the occasion small flame resulting from leaves catching fire! And, finally, this product is for bu

Burning will only clear what is above the surface however if you burn off brambles and then go over them twice more with 3 week intervals. My experience has been the roots give up and they die off. Then cover and your problem will be solved

Yes it will work for both however you will need to burn the area off probably 3 times. Every 3/4 weeks for 3 goes. This burns the top off and eventually starves the roots. Very effective

A great question. If you turn off the fuel it will cut itself off but it takes about a minute. In a panic situation you can just throw water on it and it will go out and won't damage the unit. That said it is not something that is going to blow up once lighting as it is to well built.

I use mine on my Indian sandstone patio and it has not cracked any of them and i am using the flamegun on them for over 5 years. So i don't think you will have any issues. Just don't put the flame on a particular area for to long

Yes. I have a friend who is an organic farmer and put in fencing but didn't want to use toxic spray on it. He used one of the Sheen Flameguns and it worked a treat. So much faster than the small little burners you can get in DIY stores
