Support Mesh For Climbing Plants
This low cost and easy net is ideal for climbing plants like peas and beans. In fact peas won't climb vertical bamboo canes and need something horizontal as well to succeed. This mesh is strong and cheap and does the job.
Pea & Bean Support Mesh comes in two lengths: 6m x 1.7m

This particular netting is quite wide and i personally have never had any issues with birds getting tangled in it. If it was a tighter mesh then i could see how that would happen. But on your main point of alternatives we have a Jute netting which is excellent. Just put the word Jute in the search bar and you will find it
