The planting mat is reusable and and can be folded away for use for the following crop.

Simply pin the product to the ground you are placing it on. It is advisable to use long fabric staples so that the wind doesn't loosen the Gro Grid. Plant your seeds or seedling plug plants through the planting holes and firm in well. The Gro Grid mat will prevent weed growth wherever it is placed saving you time and effort weeding between your crops.

The planting mat is particularly good for difficult to weed between plants like peas or shallow rooted vegetables like leeks and onions. Also helps prevent blight washing down to potato tubers.

I use my grow mat this year down the allotment for my strawberries onions and garlic and they are the biggest on the plot. I attributed it to the water retention using the mat. So far I have a mat in every size and have planted potatoes, swede, celeriac, beetroot, peas and beans and mini sweet corn. I’m waiting for the weather to improve to plant my brassicas. So while all around me others are weeding I am confident I will be sitting there enjoying a glass of Merlot. Thank you Quickcrop.

I used a growing grid last year with my leeks and it was fantastic for weed control. the leek done very well, only I find it hard to harvest through the holes. the rootballs are very large and I seem to cut into the bottom of the leek rather than the roots when harvesting single plants. but for time efficient weed control - genius!

Would you consider making one of these from recycled Paper so that it’s biodegradable and will rot into the ground eventually?

Hi Thomas It would be gone in jig time with the rain and wind. Literally would not last more than a week or two. That said there might be the option to make them out of a biodegradeable material of some sort so definitely worth a look. There is an element of recycling in the material used in that these Gro Grids can literally be re-used every year. I have one on the go for 10 years now. Niall Quickcrop

Hi I have a drip irrigation system and I'm wondering if it's ok to use Gro Grid mats with this? Regards Clare
Answered by Niall

Hi Clare It is of course. The water can pass down through the Gro Grids so even if the dripping point on your irrigation pipe is not over one of the holes on the mat it will still get down in to the soil Niall Quickcrop

Hello, I have bought a few grow grids. Was planning on using one for pototoes. But how do you harvest the potatoes with the growgrid on? Will it pull up over 1 potatoe plant? And how to earth up underneath the grid? Thanks
Answered by Niall

Hi Louise. You leave the plant grow up and no need to earth up. To harvest you need to pull the grow grid up fully and dig as normal. First cut the tops off the plant before removing the Grid Niall Quickcrop

Can I really use growgrid A for potatoes? And I won't have to hill up? Will the yield be the same?
Answered by Andrew
on April 21st, 2017
Hi Bert. You can use Growgrid A for potatoes but you will need deeply dug and fertile soil. It is more designed for gardeners with no time to week, if you can spend time in the garden you are better off sticking to traditional methods. This is mat is perfect for brassicas etc... that are large and have a single stem but not as well suited for potatoes with multiple stems.

What size are the plantig holes? I grow on some seedings in 3inch pots, would a 3inchplug fit in the hole with ease?

Hi Brian. The holes are approx 3 inched in diameter so your plugs will fit though it will be a bit of a squeeze!

Can these be used in raised beds? The sizing doesnt seem to tally up. ie 6' x 3' or 6' x 4'
Answered by Andrew
on January 24th, 2017
Thank you for your question Michael. They work in raised beds perfectly however as we are not the manufacturer they are not made to the size of our beds. The smaller one 2m x 2m is the one i use in in 6ft x 3ft beds. I just cut it in half and use it over 2 beds and they work perfectly. Just make sure to get plenty of staples to pin them in to the soil of the beds.
