Envirogrind Soil Improving Compost

Envirogrind is the best form of compost we have found for the vegetable garden, is rich and dark and makes the perfect soil improver. As a compost, it has all the nutrients the garden needs and is a perfectly balanced and sustainable garden product. These bags of envirogrind contain 60 litres of premium compost. Unlike other composts it contains a high percentage of composted fish waste (approx 25%) and the rest is well composted green waste, which by itself is a perfect garden compost. The combination of the two adds a whole host of amino acids, vitamins and macro and micro nutrients to soil that is important for healthy growth.

Envirogrind is also the perfect planter compost for containers, planters, and raised beds, a single bag added to one 6ft x 3ft or 6ft x 4ft raised bed will revitalize your soil and help ensure healthier plants from the start. Vegetable plants are tough on the soil as they suck all the nutrients out as they grow. This is why a good compost is essential in the garden.

Envirogrind is more suitable as a soil improver and should be added to larger, more permanent beds as a mulch in the springtime or a soil improver and nutrient booster when filling the beds for the first time. If you are building a school vegetable garden using your own supply of topsoil Envirogrind is highly recommended to mix in with the soil to improve soil structure and nutrient levels.

What's in it?

The percentages of composted materials are:  Food 40% - Fish 20% - green 40%.  It goes through a 14 week process in a closed Vessel composting facility.  It naturally reaches a temperature of 70 degrees which kills off pathogens and weed seeds.

What's so great about it?
It's a very well balanced product with large amounts of potassium and potash as well as slow release nitrogen. It won't burn plant roots and will release nutrients over a number of years. It is far better than any other bagged composts available in garden centres primarily because of the composted fish waste. In our opinion it's the best slow release soil improver available, bar none.

  • It can be used as a soil improver or used neat in raised beds without any problems. Only use neat for hungrier crops such as potatoes or Courgettes otherwise mix in with standard topsoil.
  • It is completely weed free. Fresh manure can contain weeds like thistle and scutch grass or pests like flat worm or leatherjackets. Envirogrind is totally clear of any of these.
  • It greatly increases crop yield. We added one bucket to a square metre of soil and left another without. The untreated metre gave us 2.5kg of potatoes while the envirogrind metre gave us 5kg. Maths wasn't my forte at school but even I can see that's double the yield.
  • It is a natural product which recycles food and plant waste to turn it into a sustainable, peat free compost product.

As we all know growing vegetables takes a lot out of a garden because when we remove our nutritious crops we remove nutrition from the soil. This has to be given back. The really good stuff in the soil is composter organic matter which provides food for your plants, the worms and all the little micro organisms that live in your soil. The microbial life in your soil breaks down nutrients and feeds it to the hungry roots of your plants. It is a wonderful cycle and the corner stone of life on Earth.

The vegetable gardener cannot produce enough of their own compost to keep up nutrient levels in the garden. If you think about it all you're giving back is the waste material, the bulk of the produce is eaten by you and your family and thus doesn't return to the garden. So, we need to substitute in the form of farmyard manure or compost.

I'm very pleased with the compost, soil and manure I recently purchased from you, more importantly my veggies and herbs are thriving and it's a great pleasure to be able to pick my produce without worrying about pesticides. The bags which the soil and compost were delivered in are a handy size and there was no mess to clear-up after using them.

One of the best quality soil conditioners I have come across. Currently using it to recondition the soil in my greenhouse to allow me to continue growing vegetables through the winter. Tomatoes have just finished and the soil needs this level of conditioning

Having purchased twenty x 25kg bags for raised beds, I certainly recommend this product - rocketfuel for veg basically. However, you should be aware that I continue to find small bits of glass and bits of shredded plastics in the Envirogrind mix.

This soil improver helped considerably to boost volume and nutrients in the raised bed I had assembled. I had already place my own compost in but I needed moist pliable soil to help mix in with hard soil due to our weather. One 60 ltr bag is just right for a 6*4 foot raised bed. Compared to other material I’ve used in the past I’m more than pleased.

Too soon to know if my plant seedlings will benefit from the addition of Envirogrind to topsoil, however a week on they are thriving already. I was surprised to find so very much pebble-size hard matter in the mixture, perhaps pieces of fish bone ?

Bought a bag of this after seeing the youtube video. Looking forward to giving my soil a boost before growing season begins. The free hessian sack is an added bonus as well, I'll have somewhere to put me spuds come winter. Great delivery, arrived via courier the next day. Fantastic product from a great company.

I have previously used this product for a mountain side garden in Donegal with wonderful results - beautiful healthy plants with great flowers. It is a wonderful top soil which looks very attractive in any gaden. I would also like to use this opportunity to comment on the wonderful customer service provided by Quickcrop. It is exemplar and a wonder model to emulate. Well done to all concerned?

Rocket fuel for veggies is a pretty accurate description for Envirogrind! I used it last year in my veggie garden (peat bog) on both the natural soil and in my raised beds. The veg ran amok! I had a great crop of spuds and broccoli, and my sweetcorn did amazingly well too. I shall definitely be using this again, and on other areas of the garden. Incidentally, not only are the sacks useful in the garden, but the plastic bags are nice and tough and perfect for my turf. I use Quickcrop a lot because I know their products are well tested and they have great customer service.

The 60L bags of Envirogrind compost was perfect for my square foot raised beds. I chose the bags over the pallet as i have no back graden access. The bags allowed me to carry the soil through my home with zero mess and fuss and without using wheelbarrows and shovels etc. It was so easy to tip the soil into the beds and the quality of soil was excellent. My flowers and plants started to flousish straight away. The outside sacking on the bags also came in useful for other garden uses. The ordering and delivery process was pain free and efficient. I would highly recommend this product. I am delighted with my purchase.

Whats the recommended spread rate for this product? Thanks Rod Fleckner
Answered by Niall

Hi Rod. We tend to spread it 2 inches deep across beds. That means that one of the 60litre bags should cover roughly a 6ft x 3ft raised bed area. Regards Niall Quickcrop

Hi Felicia. This compost is perfect for growing all types of fruit and vegetables. It is better mixed with soil for best results though can be used on its own for tomatoes or potatoes.

Hi Michelle. It shouldn't say Autumn as it is an all year round product. I normally put it on my garden in Spring and Autumn.
Asked By Jackie
on January 24th, 2017
Is Envirogrind a suitable soil improver before laying turf?
Answered by Andrew
on January 24th, 2017
Yes Jackie but i wouldn't go to heavy with it. A thin layer will make a big difference to establishing a lawn.
Answered by Andrew
on January 24th, 2017
Hi Jackie. Yes, envirogrind will be very good for turf laying. It contains ground shellfish shells which encourage the production of chitinase which will help combat fungal pathogens in the new grass.
Asked By Jo
on May 24th, 2016
Is this organic?
Answered by Andrew
on May 25th, 2016
Hi Jo and thank you for your question. The Envirogrind is made up of wild organic fish waste and waste from the municipal parks from around the country so no it is not 100% organic. That said it is almost impossible to have certified organic soil as there is no way of proving that the topsoil used in the mix was never sprayed at anytime in the past.

Hi Alwyn. I have grown carrots in envirogrind successfully but for other crops I would mix it with soil. If you have easy access to a good quality soil I would mix for Best results. I hope this helps. Andrew.
