The Quickcrop mini tunnel kit is a diy kit for building a sturdy and long lasting mini polytunnel for plant and raised bed protection. Mini polytunnels can be fixed to raised beds to create a compact growhouse, fixed to the ground with our peg system or used inside a full sized tunnel to create a heat retaining double glazing effect. Our kits use pressure treated timber for the frame and thick plastic tubing to create the structure. The clever bit is our unique fixing system for attaching the frame together, securing the tubular supports and fixing the poly or mesh to the frame. You can easily build a tunnel in 30 mins which will last you for many years.

This is a nice idea and the tunnel is a neat and pleasing addition to the garden once assembled. However, the kit needs some work. The 'complete kit' does not include hinges to attach the polytunnel lid piece to the raised bed, as shown in the picture. This is misleading. The plastic corner pieces for inserting the tubes are also the only way the wood is attached (based on the instructions and materials supplied). This might be fine it it was just sitting on the ground but if you want to move the tunnel at all (e.g. using it as a lid that you lift) the wood pulls apart on the underside and risks breaking the plastic. We used wood glue and a staple gun to solve but 4 long screws and instructions should be provided so the timbers are fixed firmly together at the corners (or else some metal angle braces). The instructions are also inaccurate on the use and positioning of the plastic pieces for attaching the polythene and our kit was missing the 20 screws needed to attach them. The piping

How susceptible is the cover to ripping, and is the polytunnel cover recyclable at the end of its life?

Hi Iris Unless it is cut with a sharp implement it won't rip with the wind. If you clean the cover each year during the winter it will comfortably last 10/15 years but after that it will need to be replaced. As far as i am aware it can't be recycled Niall Quickcrop

We’ve bought the 6x4 polytunnel kit, but didn’t realise we needed hinges. We have some, but are a bit unsure how to attach them. Can you advise how the hinges are fitted please. The hinge width seems to be wider than the top edge of the wood of the raised bed box. Is there meant to be an overhang or should it fit flush? Thanks

Hi Jane. The hinge is screwed to the back wall of the raised bed rather than the top. I hope this helps.

Hello i have a raised bed that is about 18 inches high, and is about 3 inches short (in depth and width) of 3x6 foot. I want to have poly cover. I dont think hindhes will work at this height off the ground, but i would like your steer here. Also how would i best access the bed daily, could i myself lift off a hooped cover from that height? Or would i over lap poly at the 2 ends, that can then be used as entry? Your advice is very welcome. Finally should i buy parts or a 3x6 kit and then cut wood so tunnel can fit/stand within veg bed, so on clay. Or is it better to fix tunnel to the wooden sides of the veg bed. Also how much poly roll do u think i should buy? Many thanks Fiona

Hi Fiona My word there is a lot there. You would be best to order the complete 6ft x 3ft kit and cut the wood to size on site. If you hinge the polytunnel to the back of the bed it is easy to lift up when accessing. The kit can be bought with the correct sized poly to fit this unit. Niall Quickcrop

Hi, What is the height of the tunnel at its highest point? Regards... Colin

Hi Colin For the 6ft x 3ft tunnel it is normally 2.5ft in the centre. Regards Niall Quickcrop

You give the height of the timber as being only 5cms, surely this isn't correct. I have my eye on the one pictured with the dark green painted timber and the timber looks to be way higher than 5cm. Please specify the height of the timber.

Hi Kevin The product you are looking at does not include the raised bed just the mini polytunnel, tubling, cover and the frame for the mini polytunnel where the wood is indeed 5cm. The bed is an extra and is just in the photo to show how it goes on to the bed Regards Niall Quickcrop

Hi My allotment has 3 9 metre x 1.5 metre homemade raised beds constructed using 6" gravel boards one of which is dedicated this year to carrots and parsnips. So I have been considering methods of 'tunneling' it using the 25mm water pipe to protect the produce from the dreaded carrot fly and other ravenous beasties. Bizarrely, I came up with an idea of a hoop bracket that I could 3D print, whilst I was printing the prototype (I am a semi-retired designer and have the CAD software - Solidworks and a 3D printer) I was also browsing the internet when I stumbled on your website and there was your Hoop Bed Hoop Support uncannily similar to what I was just printing! Each print takes around 3 hours so I would be crazy not to purchase your product at your very reasonable prices. Now I'll get to the point, in your opinion and experience what would be the ideal pitch between hoops? Brilliant website by the way, so much helpful information. Thanks

Hi Mike. We use 90cm between hoops which seems to work well. Thank you for your kind comments on our site. Let me know if I can be of any more help. Andrew
