The lower version mover from a 7 inch to a 14 inch high tier and is suitable for shallow rooted salad crops in the lower section up to deeper rooted or more demanding crops in the 14 inch high upper level. What a brilliant system - thanks Quickcrop for helping to create my raised garden area - the corner unit is aesthetically pleasing and the whole construction is extremely sturdy and was fairly simple to erect; I also added two more stand alone raised beds (one with a seat) to my area of garden in order to complete an all over, great looking area (initial pic posted to Quickcrop's Facebook page with more pics to follow once planted). I am very, very pleased with the price, quality of materials and the Quickcrop service and would definitely recommend Quickcrop to anyone looking to use a raised bed system.

Very happy with the unit, I didn't give it excellent as the instructions for assembly are not great, I would imagine someone with poor DIY skills might struggle. Otherwise I'm happy.

Can this be put straight onto a paved surface or does it need a base or liner?
Answered by Niall

Hi Sarah When you are putting it on paving or concrete base it is best to use a liners. This will allow the water pass through without taking any soil with it. You will need a liner for each section of this bed Niall Quickcrop

Hi, is it possible to arrange this in one long straight line, or does it have to be arranged around a corner?

Hi Jenny You can of course build it in one line as the parts are the same whichever way you build it. All parts are supplied to build in to a corner or straight Niall Quickcrop

Can these be painted/stained and if so, what type of paint is recommended so as not to contaminate soil & crops? Thank you.
Answered by Niall
on September 21st, 2020
Hi Fiona They can be however there is no need to as they have been treated and they age very well. If you do want to paint them Restol do a good range that won't leech in to the soil and your plants. Which you definitely don't want Niall Quickcrop

Is there a bottom the bed?
Answered by Niall
on March 01st, 2020
Hi Clare There is no need for a base on a bed of this depth as nothing will grow up through it if you are putting it on grass or soil. If you are putting it on a patio of paving it is best to use a liner which will allow the water pass through but not the soil. Just put the word LIner in the search bar and the options for liners will come up Niall Quickcrop

What is the rough weight of soil required for each size? Or how many bags of soil would be needed? Thanks
Answered by Niall
on January 20th, 2020
The smaller one takes 1,850 litres of compost to fill or roughly 2 x tonne bags. The larger one takes 2,750 or just over 3 tonne bags. You can fill the base of the higher beds with gravel to reduce the amount of soil required which can help with drainage. However if you buy good vegetable soil mix it will already have horticultural sand mixed through which sorts out any drainage issues Niall Quickcrop

Hi Joe. The description says the 14/21 takes 2,750 litres to fill the whole bed including the corner section. I am not sure where you are seeing 2,000 litres but if we have made a typo somewhere please let me know. Thanks. Andrew.

What is the best base for these types of bed? I have an area with a concrete floor that I would like to put these on but am concerned that pooling water would damage the wood over time. Could they be placed on to something to keep them out of contact with pooled water?
Answered by Andrew
on June 08th, 2016
Hi Paul. If you use a Mypex base tacked to the inside of the bed it will naturally allow the water pass through the bed but not take any of the soil with it. This stops any streaks appearing on the Concrete floor and the water can still get away. We have Mypex in various lengths on the website.

How do you treat the wood; is it safe for growing veg ? I've heard that one should use untreated wood to avoid chemical contamination.

Hi Mrs. Fox. Yes, we do treat the timber but use a preservative safe for food crops. We use Tanalith E which is a copper based preservative.
