Soil Warming Cable - Biogreen - 6m, 10m 25m

In a nutshell....

Soil warming cable in a variety of lengths. Perfect for raised beds, cold frames and for propagating seeds and cuttings on a heated propagation bench. Can be used with our Soil Warming Cable Thermostat

Soil Warming Cables For Better Seed Propagation

Parasene range replaced by us for the Bio-Green due to quality issues we were experiencing with the Parasene units.

A soil warming cable is the ideal way to propagate seeds and cuttings on a greenhouse bench or in a cold frame. The soil in the greenhouse takes time to warm up naturally: with a soil warming cable you are able to plant earlier and raise better specimens. Can be used in conjunction with our Soil Warming Cable Thermostat.

A simple frame can be constructed from wood to form the propagating area required, which is them lined with polythene. The cable is laid onto a 5cm of sharp sand (horticultural) and covered with a further 5cm of sand.
We use these cables and fleece to start our seedlings in February. You don't need expensive greenhouse heaters, we don't use anything else.

We stock these soil warming cables in 3 different sizes, please use the 'Size' tab above to select the required one.

Lengths: 6m (50watt), 10m(100watt) and 25m(320w)

Be aware that these units come with a European type plug.

Soil Warming Cable Sizes:

6 Metres (20 Feet) - 50 watt

10 Metres (32.8 Feet) -100 watt

25 Metres (82 Feet) - 320 watt

The first metre of the cable is a non-heating lead in, so the 6 metres is only actually five useful metres, the ten is nine and so on. On the other hand the plug is, happily, a three-pin Irish one not the continental.

This was easy to set up and is working a treat. Seedlings are popping up and there's nearly a 100% success rate. And my house has not been taken over by plants as it's all happening in the tunnel. Only downside: because I went for the biggest size, the propagator is huge and too heavy to be moved so it will have to be dismantled once I'm not using it during the summer. Pain!

Delighted with the product. We have it up and running very simple, came with Irish 3pin plug which we plugged into digital temperature controller. Many thanks for the prompt delivery

To connect the soil warming cable simply remove the plug and attach the wires to connector box inside thermostat as shown in the diagram included.

Everything was 100% to our satisfaction. We would be delighted to do business on a regular basis again in the future.

I am delighted with my new soil warming cable and have it all set up in my new propagator table now thanks to my creative husband and of course to Quickcrop for their super fast delivery!

Quite fiddly to get the correct spacing as the cable had been packaged in such a way that it wouldn't lay flat. Maybe Quickcrop could design a cheap plastic grid that the cable could be laid into like underfloor heating?

Hi there is it possible to have an 86m cable made up? (bench is 6.8m x 1.2m) If so how much would that be please? Many thanks Paul
Answered by Niall
on January 15th, 2020
Hi Paul I am afraid Biogreen don't do bespoke cables so the largest i can offer you is the 25m cable. They can be connected together however they won't stand over them once you do this. We have done it ourselves and they have worked but as i said they won't guarantee them once this is done. Regards Niall Quickcrop

is the full length of the cable heating or some of it not heating? can you put the cable closer together to fit into a certain sized bench?
Answered by Niall
on November 06th, 2019
Hi Graham The first half metre of the cables is non heating for safety reasons and also so you don't loose heat that you don't need to be producing. The closer you run the cables the better it works. We normally specify 2 to 3 inches apart Niall Quickcrop

In your video you water the sand thoroughly once built. How often the bed need watering after that?

Hi Harvey We water the sand in our tunnel thoroughly once a week as it seems to help the heat conduct much better from the cables Niall Quickcrop

Hi, What length of cable would I need for a 6’x2’ unit, spacing cable at 3” apart? It is my first attempt at building a propagating table so want to get it right! Your video is very clear and helpful.I notice on your website there is no 25mtr cable offered, do you not sell this length any more? How much would it cost for the cable I need plus a rod thermostat? I look for word to your reply. Sandra

Hi, with 3" spacing a 10m cable should fit your bed. We do still sell the 25m cable and will be back in stock later this week. The current price for a 1m cable with a thermostat will come to £107.00

I would like to include a porous pipe in my heated ssnd bed. Should it be below, above or at the same level as the heat cable?
Answered by Niall
on February 14th, 2019
Hi Julie Thats no problem. You are best to put the cable directly on to the insulation board then cover with the 2 inches of sand and put the piping on top of the sand. You can then put a light covering of sand over the water pipe but really only so it is easy to put your trays on the unit. Regards Niall Quickcrop

Hi Zanna, normally it would take about 2 hours to get this area of sand up to the 22 degree mark. Thanks, Meg - Quickcrop

What temperatures are riched in the soil if I do not use a thermostat? Is it dangerous to overheat the system? Do you recomend the regulation of temperature with plug the cable in timer?
Answered by Niall
on January 08th, 2019
Hi Katarina It totally depends on where you have the cable set. If it is in a polytunnel or glasshouse the Thermostat will cut off once the temperatures get above 28 degrees however temperatures in tunnels can get up to 40. Use of the cables and thermostats is particularly important up to the end of March when temperatures are low in tunnels and glasshouses and thereafter to keep soil temperatures up overnight I hope this answers your question Regards Niall Quickcrop
